  • Adventure Playland- Waterville, ME

    August 20th, 2023

126 North St, Waterville, ME 04901

The drive here is slow and boring as there’s not much to gawk out along the way. However once you get closer you travel around Colby College, which is a beautiful campus in Northern Maine. Adventure Playland is inside of the YMCA and next to the Alfrond Municipal Pool/Water Park. If I would have planned better we would’ve knocked both of these places out at once. Alas, we did not but you should. They are in the same parking lot with a very close by playground. We will go and play here soon but if you go before we do let me know what you think!

Once you find a parking spot, which should be easy, you take a small walk inside to the front desk where you pay $12 for toddlers and up. Adults free. From the desk is a short minute walk to the room Adventure Playland resides in.

In the giant room, to the left is where you can leave your shoes- this is a barefoot or socks facility. To the right is a GIANT rock wall. I saw mostly older kids and a few brave warriors who attempted but only made it a foot or two off the ground. There is a smaller rock wall should smaller kids really want to rock climb, I saw no one here except a few strays.

There’s a climbing sturcture with not many obstacles to get to the top. It’s more or less just a climb up to get to the slides. The slides are covered twisty slides. I didn’t think my 4y would do them (she isn’t a big fan of slides) but she did it multiple times. There’s a small toy overlook at the top for kids to pretend to fly a helicopter. I made my way to the top but it was not easy. It is very tight spaced and my body will need 365 days to recover.

In front of this sturcture is a three and under section. Not many toddlers were kept entertained here but they did check it out a few times, including my own 17m old. Inside here is a small, wooden, bright colored table with some things toddlers can strengthen their fine motor skills by moving objects around. There’s a small ramp that leads to two smaller sections with some things inside of them that no toddler dared touch. A purple slide is all the way to the left of this area and my 17m did that quite a bit. Some small basketball hoops and oddly shaped climbing things are in here too but barely used.

The thing here that had all the kids hooked were three big bounces houses. One was a pirate ship, with a ramp up and a slide down. Another was an open faced house with obstacles inside with two slides down the side of it. The last bounce house is designated to five and under, although the age thing didn’t really matter on any of the bounce houses. It is an animal themed bounce house with small obstacles throughout and a ramp up and slide down. Outside of it is one small plastic climbing sturcture for toddlers, I think my son was the only one who entertained that most of the time we were there.

These don’t SOUND like much but they’re huge, very bouncy and bright. We easily spent two hours here and couldve stayed another hour or so. I went into all the houses myself when there wasn’t anyone other than my own kids in them and wow I do not know how kids do it. I was falling and sweating all over the place but they were fun!

We got there at close to opening and it was packed. Come to find out there was a birthday party that included everyone but us and one or two other small families. This place reminds me alot of the Westbrook Community center, in that the bounces houses are sort of the main attraction.

We drove an hour to see this place and if we’re attending JUST for Adventure Playland, I don’t think the drive is quite worth it, especially since the one in westbrook is essentially the same thing for less. With that said, if Waterville isn’t a far drive for you, it’s worth a few hours. Your kids will enjoy jumping in any of the bounce houses if not the playhouse. If you don’t mind driving, learn from me and plan the day around Adventure Playland and the Alfrond Municipal Pool/Water Park and playground nearby. I’m still beating myself up over not properly researching the area but the pool has been on my to do list for a while now so we definitely will make it there before it closes for winter.
