  • Longfellow Playground

    August 24th, 2023

21 Longfellow Ave, Brunswick, ME 04011

I have been anticipating this playground for SO LONG. I’m so happy we made the 40m drive to get here. It was easy to find and easy to get to. Parking is along the side and although it says permit only parking this was the only area I could see for parking. I may be biased but I love love this playground. I grew up playing on wooden playgrounds so this one is a top playground in Maine.

There’s much to do here, especially if your kids are really into pretend play. Ramps, stairs, and rubber tires get your kid up to the top. They can pretend to be on a ship, be queen/king of the castle, they can hide acorns for the squirrel or simply play hide and seek all which my 4y did while we were here. There’s two metal slides, one big and one small but my daughter and I were able to go down side by side together.

There are balance beams that wobble as you walk across scattered throughout the playground. A chain balance thingy connects from some tire ninja course type thing to the big structure. A set of tires leads up to a giant stage type play area, that’s how we used it anyway. Another set leads up to to some wooden steps to be able to climb to the top or the big slide. If your kid chooses to go the other way, opposite the slide, they can go down a fire pole or another set of tires attached securely to the playground.

Cross another wobbly balance beam and come to some kid-size monkey bars. My 4y typically doesn’t like them but these ones weren’t very high and she could drop down and feel safe so she enjoyed these. Some various size logs protrude out of the ground for a quick game of how fast can you walk across”. A boat shapped front end is nearby with some benches looking forward. We played a long game of pirates here!

Theres a set of bucket swings and regular swings and a cute little kid table with four seats. Behind this, is opening field. It has thin trees scattered around which made it fun to go on a totoro hunt…or a bear hunt whichever you’re kid likes. Of course hide and seek is always a fun go-to game in between these trees. A basketball court is opposite of this area with some more swings and swinging bars.

Although we went to four different playgrounds this day, this ONE could easily be enough. Pack a lunch, grab some waters, there’s a lot of fun imaginative play waiting here. It was mommy daughter day when we came here and I actually could climb and maneuver around the structure easil, with my two month old strapped to me. Good quality time can be met here. I throughly enjoyed this playground as an adult playing with her daughter. I’m looking forward to bringing my 17m old here. I just know he’s going to love all the small spaces to hide and all of the balance type things they have here.
