166 Brackett St #3825, Portland, ME 04102
To find this playground is easy. The parking is the difficult part. There is no dedicated lot or spots. It’s strictly street parking which if you’ve been downtown Portland that is not easy. The walk is not easy either when lugging around three kids.
When you finally do get to the playground, there are two structures. One is bigger and somewhat in the shade. The other is smaller but directly in the sun. The bigger playground has some steps up to get to a metal slide which can get VERY hot so make sure you test it before sending your kids down. We went at 10am and it was extremely hot. Beside the metal slide is a rock wall to climb up and down. If the rock wall is too risky there are some twisting steps and a square shaped ladder kiddos can climb up. With supervision, my 17m old could do the twisting steps. Another way up is alternating square shaped bars. These last three ways of getting up can all lead to the metal slides or square shaped sturdy handlebars. There’s a spiral ladder that leads to the platform that the handlebars end on, to the left is what is supposed to be a zipline thing but the bar is missing. Where you would land from would be zipline is a platform with some stepping stones leading away from it.
On your way to the second, smaller playground you can stop and take a spin on the mushroom shaped post or the buckets swings for little ones. The sturcture has a small set of stairs up and they come to a came of tic-tac-toe, except instead of x’s and o’s it’s dinosaurs. Follow the small steps up to three slides. The first is a double slide and its small best suited for toddlers. Another slide is partially covered and straight down. The other is a open twisty slide. The other ways up to these slides is a slightly slanted open hole wall, a moving block ladder type thing and a two step bar ladder.
There is another swingset along the length of the big playground and it has only regular kid swings. Next to the swing set is nicely shaded with a dozen big boulders that both, my 4y and 17m old, loved to climb and hop on, counting them along the way.
This one is okay. With it being mostly in the sun, the equipment gets really hot so that knocks out a lot of what can be done, even the partially shaded playground. The parking makes it difficult too. I had to circle a few times before I said screw it I’ll park in the 5m drop off spot, as school was not in session while we were there. The walk back to our car double what it should’ve because I had three kids absolutely losing their shit because one didn’t want to leave, one didn’t want to be in the carseat I was carrying and the other just because. I think if you’re in the area, go for it but I wouldn’t drive here just for the playground, you’ll waste a lot of time between finding parking and walking.
