2, Ball Park Rd, Gorham, ME 04038
The park is pretty easy to find but parking can be sparse and it’s a bit of a walk from the lot to the playground. There’s one porta potty and a half dozen benches around the playground.
When you walk up to the playground, you’ll first see two stand alone cars for kids to climb in and either drive or be a passenger. Also on the perimeter of the playground is a spinning chair which spins with the weight of the child. Some spinning circles at various heights with spinning wheels above are next to the spinning chair, kids can reach up and spin around by holding on with what arm strength they have. Mine have none so this wasn’t entertaining for my 4y and 18m. There is a hole rock wall climbing structure next to that which was pretty popular. My kids always love these things. Lastly surrounding the main playground structure is the swing set. The swing set has three or four regular swings and two baby swings.
The main structure has a little window for some excellent pretend play. We used it as a mulch dinner restaurant. You can go up two ways. The first is the simplest, steps. The second way up is a cube shaped ladder. You can climb it from the inside or outside. When you get up there is a small double slide and a hilly singular slide. There’s a wall up here that would be cool if it wasn’t full of wood chips. It is a wall of gears that turn when you spin the handle. There is also a telephone, with one person on top and one person on bottom, to talk to each other. There’s also a seeing thing, if you’re on the bottom (the ground) you could look in and see to the top of the playground. Again none of this works because it’s filled with wood chips.
This is a fairly small playground but it’s entertaining enough, especially if you’re kids have a good imagination. A small grassy, woody area is behind the playground, along with a garden and a fenced off bee hive collection area. We walked around a couple times and stretched our time here. I’d say this playground is for smaller kids, my 18m definitely enjoyed it more than my 4y, although she did throw a fit because she didn’t want to leave. Whether this was because she’s just recently stopped naps or she really did like it that much, I don’t know but I did find her wandering around the playground a lot until she realized the little window where we did a lot of pretend play. If you’re in the area it’s worth seeing but if you’re driving 30m or more than I’d say skip it and find one closer to you.
