  • Riverbank Playground

    September 21st, 2023

    Main St, Westbrook, ME 04092

You can’t miss this playground, or is very easy to see from the toad. I’ve never struggled with parking unless of for their yearly festival. I think there is one bathroom, a porta potty but it’s fairly new because I dont remember this playground ever having one.

There are lots of stand alone equipment around the big main structure. First is the swingsets, one set is the regular swings and a chair swing and opposite of these on the other side of the big playground is the other swing set with baby bucket swings. There is a seesaw, a tire swing, a board with tic-tac-toe and a driving wheel, and some spinning circle things that kids can hang out and spin around.

The main structure is BIG. With lots of different ways up and down this place provides lots of fun. You can go up by way of stairs, a spiral ladder, a small rock wall with a chain in the middle, a chain link net, and a larger rock wall for older, braver kids. There are ninja steps that lead to triangular shaped handle bars that swing. This leads to a platform, right is the top of the playground and left is more handle bars but these ones are sturdy and are the sideways U-shaped ones. Again this leads to another set of bars, also in a triangle shape and these just lead back to the other bars. A spider web climbing net is next to the ninja steps.

If you skip the bars and go right up to the top of the playground you’ll come to some very big slides and a curved bridge. The first slide is the smallest of the slides and it’s a double. The next is a twisty open slide. Over the bridge is a double slide- it is very tall and very steep. These are all very high up so you will want to follow younger kids up if they try it.

A smaller structure is next to the big one. Toddlers can climb up a slick ramp or uneven rock climbing steps. There’s also regular steps. The hard plastic wave looking ramp, steps thing leads to a tunnel at a slight angle down. The tunnel leads to the platform where the regular stairs meet too. Off of the platforms, is a ramp with some animals dug in, almost fossil like. Then there is a small twisty slide. Toddlers can go underneath to a window type thing where most kids serve wood chip nachos.

Beside the playground is a grassy area with more shade than the playground. A lot of kids play here, tag and ball are the most popular. There’s also river nearby which is a nice view and kids can see ducks. There isn’t really anywhere to sit to see them so it’s more of a take a peek at them and continue on.

This playground ground is nice for all ages. Toddlers can explore the bigger playground if it’s not busy or they can stick to the dedicated toddler structure. I’ve seen kids as old as 10 on the big playground and as young as 2. There is plenty to do here but unfortunately it’s a lot of sun and no bathrooms (maybe one) close by. Getting here is so easy as well as leaving. If you haven’t been here yet, GO! It’s a must play here playground!
