I’ve had my eye on this playground for a while. The reason I put it off for so long was because Google photos didn’t show much so I thought it’d be small and my kids would get bored quick. I was wrong. So so so wrong. This playground is easy to find and has street parking that is also easy to find. We parked on Marble Street and had a very short walk to the playground. Any other parking you’ll have to walk through a small field or follow the path that surrounds the park.
If you park where I did, you’ll walk through the basketball courts first and ahead of you will be a stage of sorts. There’s a couple picnic tables here and some built in seats in the corners. My kids loved playing on the stage. I’m pretty sure they spent more time pretending to be Post Malone on stage than they did the actual playground. Not because of the playground but because my little superstars love to be center of attention even if that attention is coming from just one person, me. Anyway they liked the stage a lot.
There is a swingset next to the two playgrounds. There are bucket swings, regular swings and one chair swing that has a latch type thing. Next to this is one of those straight zip line pieces of equipment. A tire swing and a set of standing spinning circular play equipment are in the back.
There are two structures for playing on. The bigger one has many ways up and they may be on the challenging side. There is a set of easy steps, a green almost rock wall ladder way of getting up, a large chained net, a square shaped chain covered in rubber and a flat rock wall and a slight slant. By flat rock wall I mean the kind thay use mostly finger and toe strength. It has a chain added to it for extra support. There is a bicycle type piece of equipment off to the side of the steps. Kids essentially stand on the two pedals and there hands on the top pedals and move in circular motions, like you would on a bike. All the ways up eventually lead to a steep green double slide. There is lots of openings at the top due to the various amounts of ways to get there but a parent could easily follow a toddler up the steps.
The smaller structure has similar ways up, with an additional curved ladder and three step vertical ladder. There’s also a set of monkey bars, if you cross from the ground, that lead to the structure. A rubber bridge is in the middle of the structure. There are is one big twisty slide once kiddos reach the top or cross the bridge.
I am pleasantly surprised over this park. It looks like it is well kept up aside from a few random pieces of trash. The pathway that circles the field and playground makes for a good break from playing. The field is pretty as is the random spots of flowers and trees. Although off of a major road it is surprisingly quiet and at our visit it was not busy but I definitely can see it being busy on a weekend or early release day. There’s some shade but not too much on the playground itself. There is PLENTY of seating for adults who just wanna kick back while the kids run around. The stage can also serve as another distraction from the playground and be a nice cool down break. We were here for an hour or so but we could’ve easily stayed here longer especially if there had been other kids to play with. There’s a sign, like every playground has, that states the recommended age of 5 but neither if my kids had trouble with any of the equipment they played on. I wish there was a bathroom here, even a porta potty. From Gray, it’s about a 30m drive but this playground is worth it! Check it out next time you’re in Lewiston or just need a place for kids to burn off energy. There’s plenty to do!
