Johnson Field is way to find and plenty of parking. There a minute of two of walking to get to the playground. There is a porta potty in the parking lot.
Directly next to the parking lot is a skate park. It has ramps, curves and bars. We didn’t have any type of wheels but both my 4y and 17m just walked around and slid down ramps and climbed over the hills. They eventually spotted caterpillars and started moving them from the concrete to the grass and trees. There were a lot. A lot of this area is covered in sap. I sat on one of the block thingys and ended up having sap all of my clothes. Also a big glob of it literally fell into my hair. It was so gross getting it out. Anyway just be aware of that.
Theres a somewhat of a path leading to a field that then leads to the play ground. There is two picnic tables under a roof and it’s half shaded. The playground is mostly in the sun except for a couple spots. Three or four benches are around the perimeter of the playground. Behind the playground is a tennis court. To the left is a baseball field and just a general big area for any type of ball play. My kids decided to pick flowers so thats what they did in the field as well as running around the bases on the diamond.
There are stairs leading up to an opening, on the left, to some handle bars that start of high and get lower until you reach a circular step on a post from the ground. A couple of these steps lead to more monkey bars the ‘U’ shape on the sides kind. These lead to a step and then to a curvy balance beam and more of those circular steps. To the right of the stairs on the main structure is a little music area where kids pull a music note to the side, it swings back and hits a bell. A very loud bell. Next to this is a small double slide. Skip this at get risker on the steep, fast double slide. My 17m old went slowly down a few times so he got confident and then went flying off the slide (He was okay!). Go even higher and come to some openings. One with a curved ladder and the other a spiral. At the end is a bigger curved slide. My 4y also went flying off. Next to the playground is a hole climbing wall that starts low and gets higher. My 4y loves this but I saw kids as young as three on this and little ones were interested but not quite ready to tackle it. To the side of this is the swing set. It has four regular swings and two bucket swings.
I really like this playground but I don’t think it’s a playground you can spend a lot of time at. We’ve been here a few times and haven’t gone past an hour/hour and a half. There’s plenty to do but being in the sun that long starts to get real hot. If that’s not bothersome to you, you could definitely milk your visit here. Bring a few balls with you to break up the playground play. Bring a lunch or snacks and then continue to play. The skate park is fun whether you have wheels or not but definitely be aware it’s sticky in places because of sap. If you’re just looking for a quick play time, an hour or so, this playground is good for you too. It has enough to where you could easily burn lots of energy and time.
