18 Chaffin Pond Rd, Windham, ME 04062
This hidden gem is off of route 302 in Windham, Maine. We visit this park most. Parking is easy to find even on the busiest days. The playground is right across from the dirt and gravel parking lot.
The playground is fairly big, although just one structure. It’s bright blue and green colors are inviting. There’s a few ways up, regular steps, an alternating foot ladder thing, a small ladder and some leaf shaped steps.
Atop is a narrow bridge that leads to three connected slides and a very high up slide. My 4y won’t attempt it but my wild 17m old loves it. Opposite the bridge is two bright green tunnels that also act as slides and climbers. There’s more connected slides and one small singular slide. Along the two walls is a finger tracing board and a steering wheel type thing that makes noise as you spin it.
Beneath the playground is two play tables and seating, one is your more conventional looking picnic table while the other is small and round with two small round seats. Underneath and underside the three connected slides is a “find it” picture where kids can point out things they can see. Another wheel for ground steering and another board sport some moving parts for the littler toddlers, although mine was not captivated by it.
Behind the playground is a big swingset. It has one of those parent and me swings, where parent sits on one side and baby or toddler on the other. There’s on bucket swing and four regular swings. Some benches and a table are around here.
In the same vicinity is a shaded picnic area with two tables. A little walk will take you to a short walking trail. As many times as we’ve been to the playground we have not walked the trail but it sees plenty of action. Whenever we are there, people, kids and dogs are always coming and going. Next to the trail entrance is a beautiful view of some body of water that I don’t know the name of. There’s one table here too if you want to eat by the water.
If I’m waiting to pick up groceries from nearby Walmart, passing through or I need to go somewhere familiar Donna Lippman is where I’m gunna go waste an hour-two. There’s enough to do for younger kids and toddlers even when it’s somewhat busy. There’s few openings for toddlers to fall through but can easily be reached by an adult. Swinging with your little can be a cute little moment between you two. We always check out the water last and every time I’m blown away over its beauty. I’m sure the trail adds extra bonus points. We’ll check it out some day but for now my kids are okay with just the playground.
