Raise Playspace- Scarborough, Maine

6 Westwood Ave, Scarborough, ME 04074

Arriving here is a bit of a maze. It’s a one way parking lot with multiple buildings and if you aren’t looking you’ll miss the sign for this place. Parking is plentiful and an entrance not far from the parking.

You enter the building and are greeted by an elevator which you take to the top (2nd) floor which is occupied by only Raise Playspace so it’s hard to miss once you step out.

Like most indoor spaces it is a no shoes place. You’ll enter to a small desk, the owner likely will be there ready for your payment of $15 for one child and unlimited adults. Babies 6m and under are free and there is no time limit. In my opinion this is way over priced given the things to do and in reality most families don’t stay all day, I’d say an hour or two at most.

In my opinion there isn’t much to do. It’s a big, bright, white room surrounded by other empty rooms (which she holds classes for, which is worth checking out if you’re into that sorta thing). It is eerily quiet for a kids play place. I feel like I have to tell my kids to use an indoor voice here.

There is a wall immediately walking in that houses a peg board with pvc type pipes attached that kids can then manipulate and play around with to then send a ball down it’s path. There’s a sturcture near that, it has a climbing ladder thing leading to a platform with a pulley and bucket. On another platform is a small slick slide. I’d say this structure is for ages 1-3. In the same area is a dress up area with 6 or so outfits. A bookcase holds some dinosaur play toys and puzzle and some cars and trucks! There may be a few musical instruments but I don’t remember seeing a lot of a variety. Around the corner, in the same room, is a pikler climber with a walk across board. More bookcases to split the room up, hold basket of baby/young toys; stackers, blocks, wooden people and more cars but this time to race along a track attached to the wall. In the corner, a play kitchen is set up. Ya know that coloring sorting toy for kids that comes with 5 baskets with a color on it and food of those colors, well that’s whats there for play food. And you can eat it at the small round table nearby. Oh and that small ice cream shop, play toy, you know the one, thats there too. Beside the kitchen is a fabric house/tent thing where kids can pretend play inside or outside with the cloth fire logs and smores materials. There’s a couple tables in the middle that have a vehicle track and small cars and trucks to push around and maneuver.

One of the rooms that I mentioned earlier surround the play area does hold one play house and a few dolls and accessories. There’s a couch in here which is where I fed my son but I have also walked and nursed and sat on the floor to do so as well. There is also an extra baby lounger or two if you just need to set your baby somewhere while you play with the older sibling.

If you’re looking to have a snack or water you may but only at the tables in the back. There is a microwave there too, I’ve never asked if the attendees can use it but it’s there in the open so I would assume you can. There are bathrooms but we haven’t needed to use them during our visits.

I recommend this place for babies and younger children (1-3ish). The few times I have gone my four year old has fun but you can kinda see the point of slowing down around 45m with her, as she jumps from one things to the next within two minutes of playing. My 17m on the other hand loved all the trucks and cars. He was a fan of the balls except for he thought they were for throwing (they’re for the maze wall I mentioned). This place suits my son’s but not my daughter and while we will likely continue to visit, it’ll be on days where my daughter is elsewhere or they open in the evening (which sometimes they do but seems rare) so my husband can tag along.
